"I love to watch the teachers working with the kids. Calm and always kind. Firm yet flexible. Leading them in a gentle way that always respects the child. You get the feeling they really care for and understand each individual with all their quirks and charms. So worthy of imitation - for me as a parent (I have copied many of their tricks) but also for the children. What better way to teach kindness and respect, than to model just that."

Playgroup - The Puawai Room

The playgroup operates on Tuesdays (during term time) from 9.30am - 12.00pm in the Puawai Room at the Kindergarten. It is a Ministry of Education certified playgroup suitable for babies to children around 3 years old.

Playgroup involves indoor free-play with natural toys, (shells, wooden animals, pine cones, cloth dolls etc) a short circle time featuring movement games, finger plays, songs and a seasonal story using puppets, followed by a morning tea of fruit, home-made bread rolls, butter and honey. We regularly have water-colour painting, bun shaping (children are given dough to shape into their own baked creation), gardening and a simple craft project for parents.

Outside time follows in an enclosed grassy area with hill and climbing tree, seats, waterfall and sandpit! Children can have lots of fun sweeping, raking, digging, exploring or playing with wooden bikes and wheelbarrows.

Seasonal festivals such as Autumn, Matariki, Spring & Christmas are celebrated with the Kindergarten community and others such as Easter, Ramadan, Shrove Tuesday and Advent are celebrated during Playgroup sessions.

This is a safe and supportive space for parents to learn more, and share with others, about Steiner philosophy, parenting, child development, crafting and other topics of interest to parents.

Please bring a gold coin donation and a piece of fruit to share at morning tea.

"We are a small, friendly, informal playgroup in a beautiful, calm, home-like environment. Families with babies and young children are invited to join us for a magical morning of play. This is a wonderful opportunity for children to explore freely in a safe, gentle setting and for parents to meet other parents and find support in their parenting journey. All Welcome - Just come along!"
